Holly Announces Her Departure from E4S
Dear E4S Network,
After 10 wonderful years of working together with you to discover the possibilities of sustainability and putting these ideas to work, I have decided to leave my position of President of E4S to explore new opportunities to create prosperity and improved quality of life for all. E4S board member and past chair Michael Dungan, someone many of you know, will assume the role of Interim Executive Director on February 15th and will immediately begin to lead the transition strategy including the search for a permanent Executive Director. All E4S programming will continue in 2011.
My decision to leave was not easy and I struggled for some time in making it. Though the work of E4S is not done, my work of starting the organization is at a point where new emerging leaders can advance the work. It is time for me to enter a new learning phase like I did in 2000 when I first became interested in sustainability. I enjoy the exploration of new ideas and helping leaders implement these new ideas. I want to have more time to explore new opportunities to create prosperity and improved quality of life for all.
I have so enjoyed working with all of you! Together we have discovered the possibilities of sustainability for our businesses, homes and our region. We have been willing do the hard work of growing a sustainable economy and have seen the results in green buildings, energy efficiency, renewable energy, local food, waste elimination, biomimicry and more. We have implemented sustainable business practices within our organizations and we have started up new businesses. Together we have discovered new ideas to improve the prosperity and health of our organizations and the region. It has been my privilege and a blessing to work with all of you to do this important work for our region and our world. Thanks to all of you for your hard work and your friendship!
The E4S Network is incredibly special to me and I will always be a part of the E4S Network even if my explorations take me in new directions. My hope is that my future work will also support and help advance the work of E4S, not as the President of E4S but as a member of the Network.
If you have any questions, suggestion or ideas for me, you can reach me right here at E4S until February 15th and then I will leave future contact information with the E4S staff.
Cheers to the E4S Network,
Holly

Holly, we in the media will miss you! So quotable, so on top of trends! But we wish you the best in your new endeavors. Please let us know not only where you will be going, but how best we media folks should focus our questions to E4S!

Holly:
Your vision, leadership and ability to help others open their eyes and see the value of sustainability in our lives and work is without parallel. You have created the foundation...brick by brick. It's an amazing world with you in it. I am deeply appreciative of the path that you have brought light to so that others may journey forward. Wishing you all the very very best and sending you warm thermal hugs and trust you will always be friend to so many.

Dear Holly:
While I haven't been to an E4S meeting in years, I remember how heartening it was to attend E4S meetings and be with people happily looking up instead of sadly looking down, as happens so much in this town.
I love the E4S Web site as you have made it. It is hard to find the name Holly Harlan in this site, and I didn't find your direct email address. Just us well, I found a place to express myself instead!
The Web site appears to be evidence of a well prepared exit that welcomes the next leader of E4S to take the organization into a new stage.
And you have done other things to prepare well for this. The E4S directory is a resource to behold! It reminds me of a directory once kept by the old Cleveland Green Building Coalition, and a directory I once produced, with your encouragement: The Growing Innovations Gallery, which can still be found somewhere on the Web, (I no longer maintain a site with it), by typing Growing Innovations Gallery into Google. (At least the last time I looked.)
And you did "field work," to help me and showed up with several E4S pals to support a poorly attended event I put on for neighbors and students in University Circle. You and they realize that not all efforts bear immediate fruit and seemed happy enough during this occasion.
In a world filled to the brim with crying needs, I'm sure you can put your 10 years experience at E4S to very good use for all! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Lee Batdorff
