BeeDance Recipient of Contract Magazine Inspirations Award
BeeDance, a Cleveland Ohio based clean technology start-up, announces ZeroLandfill program has been honored by Contract Magazine with an Inspirations Award for socially responsible innovation in the interior design industry.
ZeroLandfill, a program of BeeDance, LLC, is a beneficial reuse program that supports the supply needs of arts educators and artists while reducing pressure on local landfill capacity. Since 2006, the ZeroLandfill project team has assisted the architectural and interior design community in identifying, diverting from local landfills, and re-purposing back into the community over 300,000 thousands of pounds of specification samples that hold value for other audiences. As a community of practice, ZeroLandfill™ projects inspired by the Northeast Ohio experience, completed projects in five cities in Ohio in 2009, including Akron, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and Toledo.
Contract Magazine presented its Second Annual Inspiration Awards on April 8, 2010 in San Francisco, California at the San Francisco Public and Urban Research Center. BeeDance, LLC was the honorable mention recipient recognizing cause-related work by the commercial interiors community. This award recognizes the leadership role in furthering global efforts for social responsibility in the built and unbuilt environments. The judges noted that Zero Landfill is a great, win-win program for the design community and its beneficiaries. Contract Magazine website includes a slide show with images and information from the awards evening.
BeeDance continues to carry the work of ZeroLandfill forward by launching a nationwide effort through the International Interior Design Association. Through workshops, continuing education programming and support, BeeDance works with chapter leadership to establish a ZeroLandfill site within a host community.
Chattanooga, TN recently completed a project upcycling 12,000 pounds of expired specification materials. New projects are taking shape in 2010, including Louisville, KY, Minneapolis, MN and Detroit, MI.
