Green Procurement

Local Organizations | National Resources | Journals & Publications | Conferences | Web Links

Green procurement involves the purchasing of products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose. This comparison may consider raw materials acquisition, production, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, reuse, operation, maintenance, or disposal of the product or service.1

Local Organizations:

Cuyahoga Valley Countryside Conservancy (CVCC) is a private, non-profit corporation, chartered in Ohio, and headquartered in the Cuyahoga Valley between Cleveland and Akron. CVCC is a small think-and-do tank working to re-envision and rebuild local-regional farming and food systems in Northeast Ohio – systems purposefully designed to reconnect food in the public’s mind to farming and land, to community and nature.

The New Agrarian Center is committed to building a stronger and more sustainable regional food system in Northeast Ohio- a food system that promotes health in the broadest sense of the word: healthy land, healthy communities, and a healthy economy.

Earth Day Coalition`s Clean Fuels Program promotes the development of a critical mass of alternative fueling stations and vehicles in order to facilitate the growth of a viable alternative fuels industry in the Cleveland region (Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit counties).

GreenCityBlueLake - Transportation provides a online community workspace where the people and organizations advancing sustainability in the region can tell their stories, learn from each other, and develop strategies to accelerate the progress.

EPA Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) —a tool to make it easier to purchase products and services with reduced environmental impacts. Environmental information on over 600 products and services is included in this database.
