Sustainability a topic at Bioneers-Cleveland seminar The Plain Dealer October 18, 2007 Peter Krouse Plain Dealer Reporter
Great Lakes Bioneers-Cleveland, a local group connected with the Bioneers movement, will host a series of talks and seminars Friday through Sunday at the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University.
Bioneers supports innovative solutions to restore the Earth, the community and individuals, said Nancy King Smith, chairwoman of the Great Lakes Bioneers-Cleveland steering committee. The conference will combine local presentations with those beamed in by satellite from the national Bioneers convention in San Rafael, Calif.
Local speakers include Case Western Reserve University professor David Cooperrider, who is director of the school`s Center for Business as an Agent of Work Benefit. A discussion on sustainability and healthy work environments will include Holly Harlan, founder of Entrepreneurs for Sustainability. Local food production and ideas for a new transportation system for Northeast Ohio also will be on the agenda.
Several tours are scheduled. They include visits to the wind energy exhibit at the Great Lakes Science Center, the Dike 14 Nature Preserve along Lake Erie, the Tremont neighborhood on the near West Side of Cleveland, industrial sites in the Cuyahoga Valley and urban gardens.
The cost to attend one day is $25 for students and certain representatives of nonprofits, $40 for all others. The two-day rate is $40 and $60. The three-day rate is $60 and $100.
