COMPANY: Moen Inc., North Olmstead

PRODUCT: Inspire line of showeheads

Designers at Moen became skilled “biomimics” to produce the company’s new showhead line.

The Inspire line draws upon the green design philosophy known as biomimicry, which the company describes as “exploring nature-inspired innovation as a path to more sustainable design.”

“Consumers today are looking for differentiated, unique products amidst the sea of showerheads at big box retailers,” said Tim O’Brien, Moen’s vice president of technical innovation. He said Moen’s research shows consumers “make their purchase decisions based on the perceived experience a showerhead design will provide.”

Patterns in the Inspire line, then, might remind you of a shell, a sunflower or a hurricane. The Inspire line features three-, five- and seven-setting howerheads and a nine-inch rainshower showerhead.
