Doug Paige Associate Professor of Industrial Design The Cleveland Institute of Art Doug Paige is an Associate Professor of Industrial Design at The Cleveland Institute of Art, located in University Circle, Cleveland, OH. 
Doug has been a Professor in the Industrial Design Program at CIA since 1998 where he has helped further the legacy of one the most established Industrial design programs in the country, founded by the late Viktor Schreckengost in 1933. His focus as an educator has been about helping students understand the problems and user needs, then establishing a methodology to help solve those problems. Doug incorporated designing for sustainability into the curriculum in 2000 with input from Holly Harlan, of Eco Enterprises and Tom Newhouse of Thomas J. Newhouse Design. Along with studio classroom projects, Doug has collaborated with local organizations to bring together students and the community for special projects including Entrepreneurs for Sustainability and Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District, for up-cycled pallet furniture, and Cleveland Public Art for unique bike racks to help promote a bike friendly City.
Before returning to his Alma Mater as part of the faculty, Doug spent ten years with Thomson Consumer Electronics, developing cordless phones, camcorders, VCRS, and the first DVD player developed by RCA and Proscan. In addition, He spent six years working with consulting firms in California and Ohio, designing a variety of products from Hi-tech luggage and day cruise ships, to handheld meter readers and computers. His work has been recognized by ID Magazine Design Review, The Consumer Electronics Product Innovations Awards, the Entrepreneurs for Sustainability Champions Award, along with several design patents.
In addition to his role as a full-time faculty member at CIA, Doug works as a design consultant for several companies in the North East Ohio region. He has also been a contributing author for two publications: Managing as Designing ; a selection of essays by the Cleveland Institute of Art and CASE Weatherhead School of Management faculty, and Process Materials and Measurements – a resource book for Industrial Designers.
