Amy Todd
Bialosky & Partners Architects

The Nominator: Michael Dungan, APISync

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How has the nominee implemented sustainable business practices in his or her business or organization?
Amy Todd has participated in the green team formation and sustainability implementation work at former employer Business Interiors and Environments (BIE) as well as her current place of work Bialosky + Partners Architects. She has also been a tireless promoter of green practices and learning programs for the trade organization International Interior Design Association (IIDA) where she currently serves as Director of the Cleveland/Akron city center and VP of Communications for the organization`s Ohio/Kentucky regional chapter.
What are the triple bottom line benefits (people, planet, prosperity) of the nominee`s work?
As a LEED Accredited Professional serving on the design team at Bialosky, Amy not only ensures that her clients` project goals are met but that there is an awareness and appreciation of sustainable material options through the specification process. Amy championed the E4S Sustainability Implementation (SI) program at Bialosky and was instrumental in the enrollment and graduation of the firm`s green team from the SI program in 2008. A Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) was established and publicly acknowledged by Bialosky + Partners as an outcome of the SI process, with objectives that follow the prescriptive goals and practices of the Architecture 2030 movement.
How has the nominee inspired you to implement sustainable business practices?
I have known Amy since she was a student at Kent State University and have enjoyed my association with her as a co-worker, an industry colleague, and a learning partner. Her knowledge of sustainable specification practices in the interior design field is deep and I refer to her on a regular basis for advice and inspiration. As a member of the ZeroLandfill advisory team for the past 3 years, Amy has contributed ideas and resources to help grow the program across the region without losing sight of triple bottom line outcomes. I can always count on Amy to provide a meaningful perspective on all things related to sustainability.
How can someone else translate the success of the nominee? Is the work of the nominee an example or model that others can follow?
Yes, Amy is a `go to` colleague for advice/information/referrals from suppliers, students, industry peers, and participants in the local interior design community. Her reputation as a green specifier extends beyond the NE Ohio market through her work with IIDA regionally and nationally.
How does the nominee actively participate in the sustainability community? How do they collaborate and share their knowledge with others?
Amy is a long time participant in the E4S network and the local green building community. She is immersed in her work on a day to day basis, but is never too busy to answer a question, review an idea, or contribute to the advancement of sustainable principles in the community. Amy lives her values and holds to a vision that wise action can yield a sustainable future for all.
Reflection
In the end, the question is not "How do we use nature to serve our interests?" It is "How can we use humans to serve nature's interest?"
