Aaron LeMieux
Tremont Electric

The Nominator: Jessica Davis, Tremont Electric

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How has the nominee implemented sustainable business practices in his or her business or organization?
Aaron LeMieux is committed to maintaining sustainability as Tremont Electric’s bottom line. While the core of the Company’s business is nPower™ technology, a method of generating environmentally friendly electricity, the method for which the Company brings this technology to market reflect s the Company’s commitment to sustainability. While sustainability is a process, Tremont Electric is committed to: Instilling sustainability as a corporate value, using the least amount of resources necessary to manufacture, market, and distribute product, educating employees, shareholders, and customers regarding environmental concerns and efforts, measuring the benefits of utilizing nPower™ technology.
What are the triple bottom line benefits (people, planet, prosperity) of the nominee`s work?
LeMieux is the sole inventor of nPower™ technology. nPower™, a patent-pending kinetic energy harvesting technology, is scalable and provides a range of product opportunities from smaller implantable biomedical applications to larger commercial scale Wave Energy Converters. nPower™ harvests kinetic energy from large amplitude, small frequency forces that occur in nature. Human walking, wind, and waves are good examples of these types of forces. LeMieux’s initial commercialization of nPower™ technology is the nPower™ PEG (Personal Energy Generator). The nPower™ PEG addresses the problem of the world’s increased demand for electricity and consumers’ lack of an available alternative energy option which is both cost-effective and personal. The initial potential market for the nPower™ PEG is composed of the 23.2 million Americans who carry handheld mobile electronic devices and walk for approximately one hour per day. The nPower™ PEG can remove 25.4 million kilowatts of power from the grid which is the collective annual electricity needed to charge 23.2 million cell phones at 3 watts for one hour per day. The nPower™ PEG directly provides consumers a cost-effective alternative energy option which reduces their personal carbon footprint. LeMieux is devoted to making Cleveland synonymous with green-tech as Silicon Valley is with high-tech. He has assembled a seven member start-up team committed to sustainability. The Company most recently received the North Coast Opportunity Technology Fund loan from Cuyahoga County to remain in the county, grow business, and attract follow-on investment within five years.
How has the nominee inspired you to implement sustainable business practices?
LeMieux has inspired me to implement sustainable business practices by empowering me as a team member of Tremont Electric. As a company Tremont Electric is dedicated to sustainability and LeMieux whole-heartedly encourages team members to connect, learn, and do!
How can someone else translate the success of the nominee? Is the work of the nominee an example or model that others can follow?
LeMieux is an entrepreneur whose goal is to build an alternative energy empire; his dedication to do this is what is translatable to others. LeMieux took a giant risk when he quit his nine-to-five job two years ago to pursue his dream fulltime. LeMieux has experienced many highs and lows throughout his journey to commercialize nPower™; however, it is evident that quitting is not an option. In fact, LeMieux can be heard encouraging other entrepreneurs to `burn their ships` and commit to the future.
How does the nominee actively participate in the sustainability community? How do they collaborate and share their knowledge with others?
LeMieux is an active attendee to Great Lakes Energy Task Force meetings and a member of Entrepreneurs for Sustainability. He supports his local community as a Tremont West Development Corporation board member and serves on both The Taste of Tremont and Tremont Trek planning committees. LeMieux is collaborating with The University of Akron and The Ohio State University regarding nPower™ technology in Wave Energy Convertors simultaneously to assisting a local seventh grader with a science fair project. LeMieux is also a passionate supporter of Great Lakes Brewery.
